Artist’s Note by Lalit – “After Dusk”
When the sun sets and the city slips into its quieter rhythm, I find my muse. After Dusk is not merely a painting — it is a dialogue between light and silence, between the seen and the unseen. I have always been fascinated by the way night transforms urban life — softening its edges, deepening its emotions, and revealing the soul that hides beneath daylight’s glare.
In this work, I try to capture that fragile poetry of the night — the dimly lit alleys, the glow from small homes, and the subtle hum of life that continues even when the world seems asleep. The figures in my painting are everyday people — labourers, mothers, children — all bathed in an amber wash of streetlight. Their presence speaks of endurance and quiet dignity.
The textures and tones mirror the raw, lived-in beauty of the city. I want viewers to feel the humidity of the air, the flicker of neon signs, and the distant echoes of human conversations. Night, to me, is not dark — it’s alive, breathing with memories, dreams, and moments that belong only to those who stay awake to witness them.
After Dusk is my ode to urban life — its solitude and spirit, its stillness and strength. Through these shadows and muted lights, I wish to remind the viewer that beauty often hides in the ordinary, waiting patiently to be seen, only after dusk.
